Cool Old Photo Found-Chicago, Reliance Elevator 1912

July 7th, 2009

relianceThis photograph was sent to us by a fan of this blog. It’s not every day you run across a random photograph with an Elevator Company Sign in the back ground. Reliance Elevator in Chicago was one of the biggest names in the city.

Enjoy it and perhaps someone who may have more information about Reliance Elevator would like to give a little history on this company in the comments section below.

Dated around 1910-1912 what a great piece of history!

My Grandfather, John Carl August Anderson, and 2 brothers established Relience Elevator Co. I don’t know much about the company. I do know that I believe they all came to the US from Sweden in the early 1900 when my Grandfather was 12. There is a Relience Elevator still in Chicago, however I don’t know if it is the same one. If anyone has more information Please contact me.

Hmmm, that’s very interesting. Reliance is no longer a company as they were purchased by Otis a while back. Do you have any additional information you can share? Here’s a great article that you can read regarding the founder of C.J. Anderson.
